Self Discipline VS. Self Control

This last semester I realized that self discipline and self control are not the same thing. I have a lot of self discipline it seems, but not a whole lot of self control. For instance - I will get up at 5 o clock every morning to go run in the cold, but I can't keep myself from grabbing a cookie from the cafeteria and scarfing it down along with a side of pie. Of course, I do have an affinity for delicious foods, but that's besides the point :)

Maybe it seems like only the obvious to others that these two virtues don't come in the same package, but for some reason it has taken me 19 years to figure this one out! I'm still stuck with this though - Is one more valuable to possess than the other? Can you get farther in life by restricting yourself or by pushing yourself? I guess you won't get anywhere without a little of both. I suppose just like anything else, too much of anything is a bad thing, and at the end of the day we ought to just strive for the well rounded option. For me though? Cookies are round enough.
